Grief shared is grief transformed

Every Our House NYC group is peer-led, in person, and made up of people close to your age who are grieving a similar loss. Sharing grief with people who understand is a powerful source of connection and hope.

Contributions for group sessions are on a sliding scale from $50 down to $1 per meeting — no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Thoughtful group matching

Group members are carefully matched by age, relationship, and where you are in your grief, so you’re with others who share similar experiences and are at a similar age and life stage.

Support after a death

Grief does not need to be fixed or cured. Our House offers understanding, community, and steady support for learning how to live with grief.

I never thought I could speak about my wife’s death or cry. In this group I was given the opportunity to feel, and they welcomed me without judgement. I have learned that grief is forever, I am grateful to this program and their experience with grief, I can say I am walking towards acceptance.

Our process

For those seeking Adult Grief Support Groups

15-Minute Intro

When you submit our inquiry form, you’ll be prompted to schedule a 15-minute phone call. During this call, we will learn about you and share about our services. If it seems like grief support groups may be a good fit for you or your family, we will invite you to schedule an intake appointment with us. Otherwise, we will provide referrals and resources to support you in your grief process.

45-Minute Intake

One of our clinicians will take the conversation deeper, learning more about you and about the person close to you who died. Typically, people are invited into a group following this appointment. Sometimes, however, a group may not be the right support for you, and our team will offer resources and referrals tailored to your needs.

Waiting for & Joining Group

Our groups start on a rolling basis. If you’re invited into a group, there is typically a waiting period while we form a group of others who have had a similar loss, at a similar life stage.

Groups meet every other week, led by trained volunteers and supported by clinicians. Groups meet for 6, 9, 12, or 18 months, depending on the relationship. We seek to create a welcoming space for every group member.
