Family Grief Support Program

Our House NYC's Family Grief Support Program provides a supportive community for children, teens, and their caregivers to connect with others who understand the experience of grief.

Families begin the evening together with a shared meal before breaking into age-appropriate support groups. Children, teens, and caregivers participate in separate groups designed specifically for their stage of life and grief experience.

Our groups are guided by trained volunteer group leaders and supported by clinical staff. We offer a Fall program and a Spring program. Each program runs for 5 months. We meet every other Wednesday night for 10 sessions total.

The death of a parent, sibling, or other significant person affects every member of a family.

When we first came, my kids wouldn’t talk about their dad at all. Being in a room with other families who simply understood — without us having to explain — gave them permission to grieve, and slowly, to laugh together again.

For those seeking Family Grief Support

15-Minute Intake Call

When you submit our inquiry form, you’ll be prompted to schedule a 15-minute phone call. During this call, we will learn about you and share about our services. If it seems like grief support groups may be a good fit for you or your family, we will invite you to schedule an intake appointment with us. Otherwise, we will provide referrals and resources to support you in your grief process.

90-Minute Intake Visit

One of our clinicians will take the conversation deeper, learning more about you, your child or children and about the person close to you who died. Typically, people are invited into a group following this appointment. Sometimes, however, a group may not be the right support for you, and our team will offer resources and referrals tailored to your needs.
